What a great day we all had on Saturday 24th June in Bala. Wales! First of all we have to say thank you to our good Father in heaven who blessed us with a full day of perfect weather for walking – dry, not too hot, just perfect! To say it was raining on the Friday and all day on the Sunday, how does the U2 song go? “it’s a beautiful day……..” well it was, and it was our miracle weather day.
Can I say, the Mary Jones walk is set in beautiful Welsh countryside and the views are amazing, so picturesque ……………….the walking though was much tougher than we all expected! We had 7 ‘Warrior’ walkers completing 28 miles, 19 ‘Brave’ walkers completing 16 miles and 15 ‘Family’ walkers completing 7 miles!! A massive THANK YOU to all who took part – from our youngest walker of 4 years old… to our oldest at….. well we’ll keep that a secret š
In 1800, a 15 year-old girl called Mary Jones walked 26 miles from Llanfihangel-y-Pennant to Bala to buy a bible and her action inspired the bible society.
HerĀ determination to own a Bible she could read for herself inspired Revd Thomas Charles and others to establish the British and Foreign Bible Society in 1804. The Bible Society does great work in distributing bibles all over the world today. As walkers we are not surprised it inspired Revd Thomas Charles, it was hard work walking all that way and Mary didn’t have any shoes on either. Ā A few of us had to visitĀ Mary Jones WorldĀ after the walk to just take in the whole experience.
Again thank you to everyone who took part, there are too many of you to mention and thank you to everyone who sponsored our walkers to raise money for our work with communities, families and children internationally. Obviously i am going to say it – “its not too late to sponsor and donate.” You can sponsor us by going to our GIVE pageĀ or by following donate button below.
